My mom turned 60 this year and my sister suggested we do something really special for her. In October the idea came to me that we should plan a stay at the Hacienda at Rancho de Chimayo in northern New Mexico. Our family has come to Chimayo for as long as I can remember~to visit the historic Catholic church there; to see the Ortega weavers and the Ortiz wood carvers; and of course to eat at the delicious restaurant. Mom has mentioned in the last couple years that she wanted to stay at the bed & breakfast there so we planned a night there and then arranged for several of her closest friends to meet us for a surprise evening meal at the restaurant across the street. After dinner we relaxed in the room and watched a slideshow montage that Heath helped put together of pictures of Mom's life as a child and then as a mother. It was a beautiful tribute. Earlier in the day we had gone snowshoeing in the Jemez mountains. That was a workout! The weekend and celebration couldn't have turned out better. Happy 60th Mom~we sure enjoyed celebrating with you!
