We went to Durango, CO this weekend to ride the Polar Express to the North Pole. We had such an amazing time! The kids were truly enchanted with the whole experience. When we boarded the train we were served cookies and hot chocolate as we started out towards the North Pole. About 40 minutes later we arrived to see the spectacular place where Santa lives. Santa boarded the train and rode back with us stopping to hand out a bell to each child. We sang Christmas carols as we went back to the train depot. It was just like the story (which I had borrowed from a friend to read to the kids beforehand). They even had 2 real reindeer to see when we got off the train.
The kids also really enjoyed the indoor pool at the Hampton Inn in Durango. They swam for an hour after breakfast the day we left. They picked up right where they had left off with their swimming skills from the summertime. I was glad to see that.
Saturday evening was the annual Los Alamos Light Parade. Last year it was snowing like a blizzard during the parade and it wasn't much fun, but this year it was clear and not very cold. There were some really neat floats and we even saw Carter's principal dressed a Chamisa Cheetah! The local bank gave out glow wands to each child and of course the boys loved that! A wonderful winter night in a small town.
