Spring Show and t-ball

Carter is mid-way through his t-ball season and he's getting better at his fielding skills. He plays first base often and enjoys it. We have 4 games left in the season.

Hayden's Mother's Day Out program had their Spring Show this Monday. The theme was "Where the WILD Things Are" and they sung songs about all the animals God made. It was so cute! Hayden is such a little ham anyway.

Spring is here!

The last 2 weekends have been great for spring planting and other outdoor activities. We enjoyed going to Calloway's Nursery and getting some plants for our front yard and this weekend planting a Shantung Maple tree in the backyard. Heath put our gazebo up yesterday and we had our first watermelon of the season last evening. The kids wanted to swim so they got creative and turned the lid from their sandbox into a pool. Great times!

Spring Baseball!

The spring baseball season has begun--we had opening ceremonies this morning. Carter was a little under the weather, but he wanted to attend and had a great attitude. This spring he's on the Cincinnati Reds. There are 11 kids--that's 3 more than in the fall. Can't wait for the first game this week--go Reds!!

Spring Break 2011

This is the first year Spring Break has really meant much because we now have a child in public school. We spent the first 1/2 of the week in Winters with Heath's parents and his sister and her husband, Dave. We went to a fun museum, went fishing twice, took cattle to auction, and attempted to see the pictographs at Paint Rock but were turned away for not wearing proper footwear (wonder who that was?).

The second 1/2 of the week we spent at home. Along with doing things around the house, we went to the Water Gardens one day and the Botanic Gardens the next. These were both suggestions from Carter and Hayden. Here are some miscellaneous pictures from the week.

Shining Star

Carter was the "Shining Star" this week in his kindergarten class. He got to help the teacher; be the line leader all week; and most importantly he got to bring something every day to share with the class (typically they each bring something 1 day a week to share). The class also got to ask him questions about himself and Ms. Goldman wrote down the answers on a poster they hung in the classroom. Here's what he said:

My name is Carter Watkins. Mario Kart Wii is my favorite video game. I have three guppies at home. My favorite movie is Up. Baseball is my favorite sport. I like chocolate-covered raisins for snack and Oreos for dessert. My favorite color is blue. September is my favorite month of the year.

Busy February

Like the new look of my blog? I finally found the time to change the layout a bit. Boy, it's been a busy February here. My mom came to visit for a week and in that time we celebrated both her birthday and Hayden's birthday. Then the following weekend Gran and Gramps were here and we had Hayden's "puppy party." He's been looking forward to this party since before his 2nd birthday. We had the party at the treehouse playscape @ Glenview Baptist. A couple of his friends from MDO came as well as his cousin, Ellen. Everyone had a real good time.

During Mom's visit we painted the boys' room (in anticipation of putting them together in bunkbeds); volunteered twice in Carter's classroom (Valentine's party and 100 days party); had lunch at a local tea room; played putt-putt golf with the boys; and just generally enjoyed each other's company. Can't wait till she comes out again in May.

The big chill

Monday they were predicting some precip with cold temps and Carter's teacher mentioned they might cancel school on Tues. Sure enough, school was canceled even though it was 50 degrees and dry outside. Probably a good thing since it sleeted all Monday night and we awoke to negative temps and a sheet of thick ice covering everything. I thought we'd return to normal on Wed., but since temps never made it past the teens, the ice never melted. School was canceled Wed. and Thurs. Rolling blackouts. Lots of accidents. Mommy and boys going stir crazy. Heath came home early Thurs. afternoon so I could venture out on a much-needed trip to Target (and the dollar store). He was so sweet though--he drove the roads I'd be on just to make sure they were safe. :) And now they've canceled school for Friday.... Growing up in the mountains of NM, we only had school canceled on the extremely rare occasion-and never for more than 1 day.

On a funny note, my kids were overjoyed when I brought home a whoopie cushion from the dollar store. Carter had wanted to get one since he saw them in his fundraising brochure. Only boys......
